POKOTABI / Kakoi
赤坂かこい
Located near Akasaka Station, Kakoi offers careful Japanese cuisine and drinks in private dining rooms, from lunchtime sets of tender kakuni and mackerel simmered in miso to seared Otoro Saba and multi-course meals.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Tender simmered pork belly that gives way effortlessly to chopsticks, paired with daikon radish soaked through with savory dashi, makes for a satisfying midday treat in the commercial bustle of Akasaka. Kakoi's lunch menu features classic pork kakuni, simmered mackerel in miso, sashimi plates, seared bonito, and combination set meals that include fried dishes. Diners can also choose between grated yam or a soft-poached onsen tamago as a side dish, perfect for pouring over steamed rice to finish off a hearty meal.
As evening arrives, the spotlight shifts to an array of Japanese small plates suited to drinks. The house signature is seared Otoro saba mackerel from Aomori, where a quick char brings out the rich oil and savory depth of the fish. The kitchen also turns out creative plates such as roasted wagyu ichibo (rump cap), kanpachi yellowtail scented with toasted sesame, and cabbage rolls gently stewed in seasoned broth. Multi-course menus with all-you-can-drink options flow at a lively pace, serving appetizers, sashimi, deep-fried items, and final rice courses in balanced portions.
Private dining rooms give the restaurant versatile appeal, whether for informal gatherings, workplace farewells, or dinners where conversation needs a quiet backdrop. The beverage selection includes sake like Hakkaisan, genuine shochu such as Kirishima, and tea-infused highballs made with matcha or buckwheat tea. For an assured Japanese lunch or an unhurried evening gathering over drinks, Kakoi proves a reliable choice.
